Sherwood Country Club Homes

The Beginning

A short drive North of Los Angeles is Sherwood Country Club. A place world renown for its world class golf, country club lifestyle and luxurious properties.

Behind its iron-wrought gates are a collection of the world’s finest luxury homes, untouched land and new construction. Very few have ever seen homes of such scale and beauty.

It is rare to find such architecture in the order of magnitude of Sherwood Development Company’s creation.

Each estate is subjected to the same finely tuned construction process by the hands of the members of the Development team.

All of the new construction is built from unadulterated lots and meticulously planned, detailed, designed and built from an idea, to a finished product that is then to be carefully crafted into a carefully targeted marketing plan.

It’s easy to overlook the “process” of construction—especially when one is familiar with dealing with a “finished product” (aka real estate).

The idea that there is a beginning or an end to the construction cycle is notable only inasmuch as there is unearthed land and four walled buildings.

There is magic in the air in Sherwood. The kind of magic that must be believed to be seen. And then seen to be believed. And for those that have good fortune to make Sherwood their home, it is for them to pass on.

It begins with Sherwood Development Company

David H. Murdock

I t’s impossible to outline Sherwood Development Company's construction process without the emphasis of Mr. Murdock’s vision.

Mr. Murdock purchased the land in 1984 from a real estate company whose intention was to develop a “high-density” community of “condominiums” and “shopping malls”.

At the time of Mr. Murdock's purchase, Lake Sherwood was an empty lakebed fated for a tragic and untimely end. David Murdock systematically changed and made an explicit promise to the residents of Lake Sherwood that the Lake would be revived and exempt from exploitation and 20th Century industrialization.

The first homes were put on the market in the early 1990’s. Since then, over 400 of the world’s most luxurious properties have been built.

Mr. Murdock followed through with the promise he made 28 years ago. To this day, he has not wavered from his commitment to the residents and remains the rightful steward of Lake Sherwood, Sherwood Development Company's new construction and future projects.

The Completion

The artistic mastery involved in a Sherwood estate is building construction on its highest level.

One may marvel at the size, beauty and landscape that surrounds each and every estate in Sherwood, and fewer will never experience the "process" involved in their creation.

The process of a completed Sherwood estate is a circuitous path, much like the changing seasons. The time that moves through, what seems impossible, conception to blueprinting, budgets to funding, grade to frame, inspiration to design, coordination to the market-at large, and negotiation to transfer of ownership, is a reflection of passion, strength and commitment. An idea that begins in Dicken's Patch on Tom Comber's desk becomes a timeless monument of grandeur.

The process is about the people. People driven to create and craft buildings and landscapes of people's dreams. The homes are rare works of art that will stand the test of time and a testament to highly skilled craftsmanship. A fusion of tradesman that seamlessly blend ancient architectural concepts such as carpentry, economics, design, translation, insight, bartering ... and, above all — optimism.

In the beginning, from the time the construction breaks ground, the roar of the diesel engines, the warning alerts of reversing heavy machinery, the rhythmic clanging of hammers, and the buzzing of skill saws are unmistakably loud—as loud as the day is long--maybe even unpleasant to the nearest neighbor. But not for Sherwood Development Company. To Sherwood Development Company, these sounds are symbols. Symbols of a beginning—akin to Sunday morning Church Bells—a testament to each of their life’s work... the beginning of, what will become someone’s most cherished posession.

What stands now, in place of the once empty lot, are four walls surrounded by a lush landscape and an expertly arranged hardscape along with a newly painted harmony of colors. To the buyer & surrounding residents, this represents a new home. To Sherwood Development Company, it is a symbol of triumph—and what is now a new beginning.

In the end, there is a calm, peaceful silence. An emptiness. The streets no longer adorn heavy machinery and pickup trucks. At once, all of warning bells and roars stop and the “sounds of a construction site” are gone. Only the birds and the Santa Ana winds remain .... except for a newly completed Sherwood estate. One for the ages…

Some things really do happen once in a lifetime.
